PADI Dive Centers and Resorts looking to fill their facilities with potential new customers in a new and innovative way should consider letting everyone get swept away by The Current. The man behind the film, Kurt Miller, and his Make A Hero organization focus on maximizing the impact of adaptive sports (think scuba diving) on the well being of individuals with disabilities. This latest project is a beautiful film, well shot, with a wonderful soundtrack, chronicling the experiences of an inspirational group of people as they learn to scuba dive and feel first hand the healing powers of the ocean. The Current is an immensely emotional, and motivational, ride.
It’s now available for PADI Members to use at events or dedicated benefit screenings. One successful model is for dive shops to use the film as a way to raise funds for local charities. The dive center or resort hosts a movie night and charges a minimal fee for attendance, which is then donated to charity. Scott Taylor screened the movie, and served bucket loads of popcorn, with good results at his PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center A-1 Scuba in Colorado, USA. In the process he increased awareness of the business, generated really positive PR and raised significant funds for a worthy cause. The A-1 Scuba screening raised $3000 US for a local adaptive group and Craig Hospital.
For a hosting fee of $150 US, PADI Dive Centers and Resorts get a high-definition DVD of The Current, fully customizable promotional materials including posters, flyers, action footage for local television, cast interviews and press releases for local radio and newspapers. Also included are a high-definition preview of The Current and segments on cast members to publish on websites and social media.
