The revised PADI Divemaster Course received many positive comments and generated several questions. Here, we’ll revisit some of the most common questions along with the answers:
PADI Divemaster Course How does PADI Dive Theory Online assist divemaster candidates?
Divemaster candidates studying dive theory via Dive Theory Online may credit that training toward Part 2 (dive theory and environment) of the revised Divemaster Final Exam. To do so, divemaster candidates present their Dive Theory Online eRecords (within 12 months of completing the program) and they are then only required to complete Part 1 of the two-part Divemaster Final Exam. Dive Theory Online develops and tests dive theory knowledge at the instructor level, so divemaster candidates completing this PADI eLearning® program will have exceeded the dive theory knowledge requirements for the PADI Divemaster course.
Are divemaster candidates required to complete Dive Theory Online?
No, divemaster candidates may study for the theory portions in multiple ways. One good way to make sure candidates can take advantage of all the options is to provide students with a copy of the Diving Knowledge Workbook (part no. 70214). The workbook isn’t required material and therefore not included in the Divemaster crewpak. It does, however, provide another option for those who don’t want to complete Dive Theory Online. If you choose to present dive theory in a classroom setting, you may supplement the learning from The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving with the Diving Knowledge Workbook.
How else can I make sure candidates have a full understanding of dive theory, especially if they are going on to the Instructor Development Course?
Some IDC Staff Instructors and Course Directors are conducting dive theory workshops prior to the Instructor Development Course. This is helping them make sure candidates have mastered the material – both for the course itself and at the Instructor Examination. Consider offering this type of course for your divemaster candidates if they are on track to become an instructor or want to acquire more knowledge.
PADI Divemaster Course Are Divemaster-Conducted Programs Workshops optional?
No. The workshops are designed to help divemasters conduct the specific programs they are qualified to conduct after certification.
Are the Practical Application Skills required of each divemaster candidate or may they be conducted as a buddy team?
Divemasters may work together as a buddy team while diving together, but each divemaster candidate is responsible for each of the five Practical Application Skills.
Does the Practical Application Skill 5 for the Deep Dive Scenario have to be conducted deeper than 18 metres/60 feet?
Yes. You must conduct this skill between 18 metres/60 feet and 30 metres/100 feet.
